During my 6th semester of college, GlobalLogic, an MNC and a subsidiary of the Hitachi group conducted recruitment for the role of a software engineer trainee.

1st Round: Online Exam

The journey began with an online exam, encompassing aptitude, logical reasoning, C questions, and object-oriented programming. Additionally, there were four coding questions, out of which the submission of three was required to qualify for the subsequent round. Despite the time constraint, I managed to tackle three coding questions and submitted them successfully.

To my delight, I received a confirmation that I had qualified for the online exam, marking the commencement of the next phases: a technical round, a managerial round, and ultimately, an HR interview.

2nd Round: Technical Interview Online

Preparing for the technical round was quite a task, given the limited time frame of just one night. Nevertheless, I refreshed my knowledge in DBMS, OOPS, OS, and Java. During the technical round, the interviewer inquired about the fundamentals of JAVA that basically contained OOP related questions. Following that, I was presented with two basic-level coding questions by the interviewer. The question was:

a) Swapping two numbers without using a third variable, which I accomplished effortlessly.

b) To check for a palindrome string, which I also successfully solved.

After successfully solving the palindrome string question, the interviewer challenged me to perform the operation without using a temporary variable. Despite my best efforts, I couldn’t find a solution at that moment. However, the interviewer kindly moved on to the next stage.

3rd Round: MR Interview Online

To my surprise, I received an email the following day, summoning me for the managerial round. This news revived my hope, and I eagerly prepared for the interview. During the managerial round, the focus was on my resume, where the interviewer inquired about my mentioned skills, projects, and internship experiences. While some of my friends encountered coding questions during this round, my experience revolved primarily around discussing my resume. Despite being a challenging and rigorous round, I approached it with confidence, ensuring transparency in showcasing the skills I had mentioned in my resume.

4th Round: HR Interview Online

Finally, I received the call for the HR interview, the last step in the selection process. The HR interviewer asked typical HR-related questions, like:

  • Tell me something about yourself.
  • Why GlobalLogic?
  • Why this tech role?
  • Are you comfortable with relocation?
  • Any questions which you would like to ask from us?

It was crucial to answer these questions thoughtfully, demonstrating alignment with the company’s values and objectives.

Tip: In case you don’t have any questions for the interviewer during the final question, it is advisable not to respond with a simple “No.” Instead, you can inquire about your performance throughout the interview or ask if there are any areas where you can further improve.

A few days later, I received an email notifying me of my selection, filled with congratulations and the exciting news that I had been chosen for the position.

Out of 15 students from my college who were shortlisted for the interviews, only 8 students were offered positions, and I am elated to be among the chosen few.

To all aspiring professionals, I would like to share some advice based on my learnings. Believe in yourself and never lose hope, even when faced with challenges. Transparency about your skills and experiences is vital, as it allows you to present your authentic self to the interviewers. I wish you the best of luck in your endeavors. Remember to stay determined, keep learning, and embrace each experience as an opportunity for growth.
