Through this blog, I would like to share my experience of interviewing for the Google SWE internship, for the summer of 2024.

I came to know about this opportunity from Arsh Goyal’s YouTube channel. The applications opened around mid-July(2023). I applied through the Google Careers website.

The steps in the interview process were:

  • Phone screening round
  • Two 45-min coding interviews

After around one week of applying, I received a call from a Google recruiter. She asked me about my basic details, and some behavioural questions like, What are your strengths and weaknesses, tell me about a time you faced a challenging situation and how you overcame it. Also, I was asked to briefly discuss the projects I had mentioned in my resume, and what technology was used to make the projects. Also, I was asked about the languages I was comfortable coding in.

Finally, she asked me for my preferred time slots for the first round of interviews.

I had my first interview scheduled around 1 week after the phone screening round.

Round 1:

The interview was 45 minutes long. The interviewer gave a brief introduction of himself and asked me to do the same. Then we jumped on to the coding question. There was one DSA question and one follow-up based on that. I first needed to explain the approach and then code it up. The questions were based on Trees.

One day after the interview, I received a call from the recruiter that I was qualified for the second round. (The interview rounds were eliminatory.)

Round 2:

One week after the first interview, my second interview was scheduled. This too was 45 minutes long. We jumped straight onto the coding questions. Similar to the first interview, there was one DSA question and a follow-up based on that. This time the questions were based on Graphs.

Around 4–5 days after the second interview I received a call from my recruiter that I was selected as a SWE Intern for the summer of 2024.
