Mathworks Interview Experience EDG | On-Campus 2021

Mathworks visited our college in November 2021 to hire final year students for internship and full-time roles. The process included 5 rounds in total.

Round 1: Online Test

  • The 90 minutes the online test was conducted on the HackerRank platform.
  • It consisted of MCQs and 2 coding questions. (Total 44 questions)
  • The coding questions were medium level and were needed to be performed in 2 different languages.
  • The MCQ section was divided into 3 sections of languages C, C++and Java. We were required to perform at least two sections
  • They mostly consisted of output-based questions.

Out of more than 150 students, 14 were shortlisted for the interview process. On the day of the interview, there was a PPT of about 30 minutes in which they told about the company and its EDG program. It’s mandatory to attend the PPT and should be listened to carefully as the GD round is based on it.

Round 2: Group Discussion

  • The PPT was followed by a GD round for which we were divided into two groups.
  • The host told us to discuss our understanding of the EDG program and its various benefits.
  • The discussion went for around 15-20 mins. after which we are asked to conclude the discussion.

7 candidates were eliminated after this round. Further rounds consisted of Technical, Managerial, and HR rounds which can happen in any order.

Round 3: Technical Round

  • It lasted for 60 minutes.
  • The panel consisted of two interviewers.
  • They told me to introduce myself and then asked me to choose any 2 programming languages based on which I’ll get the questions(C and C++ would be considered as one). I chose C/C++ and Java.
  • C++ questions: Define OOPS, explain polymorphism, its various types with examples, and implement method overriding. (On hackerrank’s codeshare platform.). Followed by some output-based questions.
  • One coding question: 2 sum problem and its complexities.
  • Java questions: Also included some output-based questions, questions about inheritance, and implementing multiple inheritances.
  • Operating System: Schedulers, it’s typed, and their use. Paging and Segmentation.

Round 4: Managerial Round

  • Went on for almost 30 minutes.
  • Discussion about my strengths and weaknesses and how am I working on them.
  • Discussion about my projects, problems faced, and how I solved them.
  • Preferred Location
  • My knowledge about the EDG program.
  • Why Mathworks
  • Problems faced with team members in a project and how I solved them.
  • Some situational questions.

Round 5: HR round

  • Went on for almost 30 minutes.
  • General HR questions.
  • My future plans
  • Where do I see myself in 5 years?
  • How do I handle the situation if I have multiple tasks to finish at the time.
  • My understanding of the EDG program.
  • Some behavioral questions.

Verdict: 3 students were were offered internships and full-time roles and I was fortunate to be one of them.

Tips:  Be calm and consider the interview sounds like a discussion.
