In what ratio a vendor should mix rice at Rs.60 per kg with rice at Rs. 68 per kg so that the final rice mixture must be of worth Rs. 63 per kg?

(A)

4:5

(B)

5:3

(C)

2:3

(D)

3:2

Answer: (B)

Explanation:

C.P. of 1 kg of rice = Rs. 60 (cheaper rice)
C.P. of 1 kg of rice of 2nd kind = Rs. 68 (dearer rice)
Also, Mean price of the mixture (per kg) =  Rs. 63

So, By the rule of alligation,

(Quantity of Cheaper Substance):(Quantity of Dearer Substance) = (CP of dearer substance – Mean Price):(Mean Price – CP of cheaper substance)
(Quantity of Cheaper Substance):(Quantity of Dearer Substance) = (CP of dearer rice – Mean Price):(Mean Price – CP of cheaper rice)
(Quantity of cheaper rice) : (Quantity of dearer rice) = (68 – 63):(63-60)
(Quantity of cheaper rice) : (Quantity of dearer rice) = 5:3
So, The answer is 5:3
